Say we change the argument a little by adding  a line: Argument: Studies show that cash tips left by customers are larger when the bill is presented on a tray that bears a credit-card logo. Now, does the psychologists interpretation make even more sense? The psychologists interpretation is only that seeing a logo reminds people of their own credit card status. If we are given that some customers tip more upon seeing that card logo and some tip less upon seeing it, it makes sense, right? This is what you would expect if the psychologists interpretation were correct. B: Yeah, because your sleep pattern is linked to your level of concentration. After a long sleep, your mind is still muddled and lazy so you can’t study. A: After only 4 hrs of night time sleep, I cant study either. Does B’s theory make sense? Sure! B’s theory is that sleep pattern is linked to level of concentration. If A sleeps too much, her  concentration is affected. If she sleeps too little, again her concentration is  affected. So B’s theory certainly makes more sense. Let’s now review answer choice E since it tends to confuse people: (E) The percentage of restaurant bills paid with given brand of credit card increases when that credit cards logo is displayed on the tray with which the bill is prepared. This option supports the hypothesis that credit card logos remind people of their own card not of their card obligations. The psychologists interpretation talks about the logo reminding people of their card status (high spending power or high obligations). Hence, this option is not correct. Now lets examine the rest of the answer choices to see why they are also incorrect: (A) The effect noted in the studies is not limited to patrons who have credit cards. This argument is focused only on credit cards, not on credit cards and their logos, so  this is irrelevant. She didnt understand that when I said green, I meant soft-spoken yet realistic, and when I said blue, I meant calm and nurturing. I just didnt know those words yet. All I knew was that I associated feelings and emotions with colors. Subconsciously Ive always related life to the ROYGBIV spectrum. My math binders are repeatedly black. And my English binders are always pink. It wasnt until I visited France that my theory came full circle and manifested itself in the form of a water lily. Let me explain. Everything I have done in my life is akin to one paint stroke, completely independent from, yet entirely dependent on, the other dollops for meaning. My life in its entirety is the canvas. It started out blank but is currently in the process of becoming something beautiful. My first memory of joy is as a three-year-old running through a Pooh-bear lawn sprinkler with my dad. A thick yellow glob of paint and a sun-filled recollection. In and of itself its a lovely color and an even lovelier memory, but when combined with every other shade of my life, it gains weight, purpose, and meaning. When I think of being three, I think of light yellows and pale blues, carefree days spent under a warm California sun. When I think of being nine, I think of orange and uncertainty. What is orange really? Its not mean, passionate, and convicted enough to be red but not cheerful enough to be yellow. I was an orange nine-year-old, relocated to Little Rock, who quickly had to adapt to a Southern world of â€Å"yes maam† and â€Å"no maam,† grits, hogs, and â€Å"fixin to.† I didnt like it. When I think of the summer of 17, I think about the brightest of turquoises and the prettiest of lilacs, the best three months of my life. But every action and every moment in between fills those years with varying degrees of color. Dark gray for when I hung up the phone and cried big tears and my mom held me on our leather family room sofa – my first encounter with death. Coral for when my fifth-grade crush brought me a heart-shaped box of Reeses and asked to be my boyfriend on Valentines Day. Purple for secret rendezvous and sneaking out of the house. Green – pragmatic and reliable – for hours spent studying. Brown – ugly, mean-spirited brown – for the first time I got made fun of for being Mormon. Red for love. I think Monet understood this when he painted his water lilies. He knew there is necessity in the dark shades, for without them to throw the pastels into relief there would be no contrast and no beauty. Life is the same. Every stroke combines to create something magnificent, but it is up to us to create the masterpiece. I cannot say for certain what my canvas will turn out to be, I only know there is truth and fulfillment to be found in the process of painting.

At this point we are not inclined to feel sympathy for the creature. After fleeing from the laboratory on the night of his birth, the monster discovers himself cold, unfed, and lonely in the mountains outside Ingolstadt. He describes himself as a poor, helpless, miserable wretch. This quote shows that the creature has taken on Frankensteins name for himself and is recognising himself in the mould that Frankenstein has cast for him. He searches for food and shelter in the woods. Later he finds a cottage and watches and learns form the cottagers about many different aspects of life including how to speak. He hears his own voice for the first time which frightens himself into silence. He clearly feels insecure as well as scared. Mary Shelley is implying that the creature had finally found out why people were so scared of him, and by saying that his voice scared him it suggests that he now knows why people are so mean towards him. The reader is drawn towards sympathy for the creature by the fact that he tries to explain how he feels about being bought into a strange and unknown world where everyone provokes him because he is different. This is portraying prejudice and discrimination against anything or anyone who is different. The language in this chapter helps to create sympathy for the creature as when he states that the clothes he found were insufficient to secure me this creates a sense that even though he is made from adult body parts the create still has to get used to the surroundings just like a new born baby would have to. When the creature first wakes up his reactions are that of a very small child, just learning to walk or use their senses, a strange multiplicity of sensations seized me, and I saw, felt, heard and smelt at the same time. He describes to Frankenstein that it was a long time before he got uses to his four senses. When he tells Frankenstein about wandering through the woods of Ingolstadt, he describes hunger and thirst as being living objects. This could imply that he still needs to get used to the idea that not all things are living but that some are inanimate. This personification suggests persecution. In my view the creature was not born a horrible monster. I believe that because Frankenstein was so surprised that his creation actually worked, and also cowardly towards him, it gave the creature a sense of not belonging and loneliness. On his first encounter with humans, the creature is given the perspective of the barbarity of man. With every meeting of humans, the creature is tormented and hurt in such a way that it starts to make him fight back and reinforces the initial perspective. I believe this to be the cause of turning the creature into a horrible monster; had his experiences been different he may have turned out to be an entirely different type of being. At the end of the book the monster is thrown into despair when he finally stands over the dead body of Frankenstein, and realises that he has destroyed himself by destroying Frankenstein and all he loved. He is described as howling with despair. In my opinion evil can mean very different things. It could mean a person being morally bad or wrong. I think that because Frankenstein created such a miserable wretch, this could in some instances be classed as malicious, since it was Frankensteins desire to create a thing that he could bring back to life. However I do not believe that Frankenstein intended it to cause harm but maybe knew deep down that it was a possible outcome of his actions. In some ways the creature is hardly different to Frankenstein. In some instances the creature deliberately causes great harm and pain to several members of Frankensteins family including Frankenstein himself. It was after all Frankensteins deliberate actions that created the creature in the first place. It is almost as if it was his alter-ego. Because each narrator tells his own story, I think that it has some impact on the effect that it tries to cast over the readers sympathy. As a reader you find that your sympathy switches from Frankenstein, the creature and even Henry Clerval. The story is told in the first person narrative and this has a powerful effect on the reader. For example, when Frankenstein is describing his work towards his creation, he is consumed with his own ambitions and gives no thoughts to the consequences of his actions. This leads the reader to have little sympathy with him. In some measures the creatures actions are justified because of what he suffered. He was given no opportunity to develop any kind of warmth or love because he did not experience it himself. Everywhere he went he was harmed in someway, whether it was mentally or physically. This is shown when he is describing his experiences to Frankenstein. The whole village was roused; some fled, some attacked me, until, grievously bruised by stones and many other kinds of missile weapons, I escaped. In conclusion, I felt as a reader, most sympathy with the creature because he was brought into the world with no real sense of right or wrong, just as a child would be. However, he does not have the support of a family and is not shown love and support to enable him to grow in a way that society perceives as right. I think Mary Shelley is warning that meddling with science and things beyond our understanding could have consequences so bad that we cannot even imagine. Mary Shelley had terrible experiences of birth. Her mother died the day after she was born and she gave birth to several stillborn children. I think that the horror of these circumstances led her to express her feelings of grief and despair in the writing of this novel. I also think that there is an element of her blaming herself for these awful events in her own life. Mary Shelley combines these terrible events in her own life with the scientific experiments of the day to produce this tale of horror and despair.

Shattered dreams. Broken promises. They were hung between freedom and slavery. They struggled to find a different kind of freedom and independency where justice has yet to exist and racism wasn’t just a part of life, but what life was all about. New Orleans New Orleans is a city in southern Louisiana, located on the Mississippi River. Most of the city is situated on the east bank, between the river and Lake Pontchartrain to the north. Because it was built on a great turn of the river, it is known as the Crescent City. New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, sieur de Bienville, and named for the regent of France, Philippe II, duc d'Orleans. It remained a French colony until 1763, when it was surrendered to the Spanish. In 1800, Spain ceded it back to France; in 1803, New Orleans, along with the entire Louisiana Purchase, was sold by Napoleon I to the United States. Like the early American settlements along Massachusetts Bay and Chesapeake Bay, New Orleans served as a distinctive cultural gateway to North America, where people from Europe and Africa initially intertwined their lives and customs with those of the native inhabitants of the New World. The resulting way of life differed dramatically from the culture than was spawned in the English colonies of North America. New Orleans is a place where Africans, Indians and European settlers shared their cultures and blended together. Encouraged by the French government, this strategy for producing a tough, durable culture in a difficult place, marked New Orleans as different and special and it still continues to distinguish the city today. The Africans African Americans make up about half of the city of New Orleans population to date. How did this come about? Well, during the eighteenth century, Africans came to the city directly from West Africa. The majority passed neither through the West Indies nor South America, so they developed complicated relations with both the Indian and Europeans. The Spanish rulers (1765-1802) reached out to the black population for support against the French settlers; in doing so, they allowed many to buy their own freedom. These free black settlers along with Creole slaves formed the earliest black urban settlement in North America. The Creoles A Creole is a person born in the West Indies or Spanish America but of European, usually Spanish, ancestry. Evaluation and Control Executive Summary The executive summary is the first part of the marketing plan, but should be written after all other parts are completed. It is a brief overview of the entire plan and covers only the main points. The executive summary is also useful internally, as it helps to remind you and your employees of the organization’s desired marketing goals and how to achieve them. Internal Analysis Knowing the state of the organization and its resources helps to determine where it is strong and what areas need attention. Include the following in the marketing plan: †¢ Current state of financial and human resources †¢ Anticipated state of financial and human resources †¢ Your business’s performance in relation to competitors The 5 C’s of Marketing can be summarized as: Company – The product time line, experience in the market, etc. Collaborators (or Partners) – Distributors, suppliers, and alliances. These are any companies that you work with on a day to day basis to help your company run. Customers – This is your market. Ask yourself what benefits they are looking for. What motivates them in the purchase process? Where the customer does actually purchases your product? How the product is purchased (impulse buys, internet, etc)? Understand the quantity a customer will purchase and even trends in consumer tastes. Competitors – Both your actual and potential competitors and those that directly or indirectly compete with you. Understand their products, positioning, market shares, strengths and weaknesses. Climate (or Environment) – These are governmental policies and regulations that affect the market. It is also the economic environment around your company; which is the business cycle, inflation rate, interest rates, and other macroeconomic issues. Society’s trends and fashions are found in the â€Å"climate.† The technological environment is creating new ways of satisfying needs (i.e. using technology to enhance the demand for existing products). SWOT Analysis Conducting a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis is essential in assessing the company’s position and serves as a guide to developing marketing plans. Benefits of a SWOT Analysis A SWOT analysis provides a fairly simple, low-cost way of assessing the company’s position. It presents information that is important in developing business and marketing plans, as well as setting organizational goals and objectives. It tells you where the company currently sits, and where it needs to go in the future.
